I have been a nurse for over 30 years, and I could not have picked a more beautiful profession. In all my roles, I feel advocacy continues to be my top priority, no matter if I am taking care of a dying patient, saving a patient’s life, serving in the board room or lobbying for what’s right. That is why ANA is the perfect organization for me and it has been an honor to serve on our board at the state level for the last six years. I initially spent time traveling around the state and listening to what the major concerns were for the nurses. From those “listening tours” we were able to recruit more members, developed programs, and launch an ANA\C Foundation. I feel it is the responsibility of the board to actively explore the needs of its membership and tackle the tough issues before them.
